In the UK, London Edge is a pinnacle time of year for the alternative fashion industry, with store owners, clothing labels and the press traveling from far corners of the earth to attend one of the most reputable alternative trade shows in the world.
The London Edge trade show is the first and biggest of its kind catering for the ‘alternative clubwear markets’ such as gothic, punk, cyber, techno, glam, heavy metal, rockabily and biker. Alongside the success of London Edge is London Central, a trade show that caters for the urban streetwear markets covering skate, hip hop, surf, hippy and street.

London edge and London central however, are not just noted for the people and brands they attract, it is a time when people of all different lifestyles come together, it is also about the culture and the parties with so much happening inside the event. The catwalks, skate ramps and entertainment are to name a few, but London Edge and London Central is a very exciting time of year for anyone within the alternative fashion who attends.
Start A Clothing Line caught up with London Edge’s Managing Director, Carol Hunter, who was delighted to answer our questions that new new clothing lines may want to know before exhibiting at the show.
Small to medium sized clothing, footwear, accessories & giftware companies. Broadly the influences are alternative, street, skate, punk, goth, rock n roll, cult, tattoo, piercing etc etc.
Again, small to medium retailers specializing in, or with an interest in, alternative merchandise.
It is dedicated to these markets and has developed a community of buyers and exhibitors over the last 10 years. Even the tiniest company will be found the right space for a stand so that they have an opportunity to exhibit their products.
They will have the opportunity to observe other exhibitors, ask questions, speak to retailers, take orders and to quiz the organizing staff to get the very best results from the show and future shows. They'll also see the entertainment and walkabout performances during the open hours of the show.
This season (September 2009) we are next door at the Pillar Hall and we have a great guest band called The Spyders as well as a great alternative DJ, lots of liquid refreshment and lots of laughs.
Not asking enough questions of everyone they meet and not being sufficiently well prepared on the build-up day. They often think that lights on a stand aren't important and that can be a disastrous mistake. That and having unrealistic expectations.
Tidy merchandise and stand, well made garments and an imaginative display in terms of color, texture etc.
Stand holders should stand up and smile even if their face hurts. That and make sure they have some lights!
