Section five of the ebook takes a look at managing the production of your clothing and helps you to understand the best production route for your clothing line. The section also tells you how to choose a factory and shows you what to look out for when deciding where to produce your clothing.
The production route that you choose for your range will depend on the type of clothing that you do and the quantities being produced. You will need to have your production routes planned prior to selling your ranges and make sure that you are aware of minimums, lead times, the capacity and skills at the factories.
You will need to pre-book factory space with the anticipated order volume. This is an essential task if you are producing a high volume of stock so that you can ensure that all garments are manufactured and delivered by their expected due dates.
In most cases you will need to source in the fabrics and materials used in the production and deliver them to your place of manufacture before production can start. However, this is not always the case and if those materials are common for the manufacturer they may already have their own supplier and be able to source those products in for you.
From your sales you will know what numbers you will be producing and should now order your production with the manufacturer, giving them all of the details and documents that they require.
Once your production has finished you can pack and ship orders to the stores at the expected dates that were decided on when you took the order at the meeting.
